Overview Of Snow Removal Service

  • Service Types & Pricing: Whole season and vacation plan. Whole season is a pay per snowfall model (same price at any height of snowfall from September 1 to April 15). Vacation plans are for specific dates you need coverage, and payment is required upfront. Shovels and snowblowers are used, no plows!

  • Dispatch Heights & Times: We dispatch at 1/2 or 1 inch depending on your plan, once the snow concludes. Per students' class schedules, historically we arrive in under 6 hours. Overnight shoveling may occur in colder temperatures to prevent ice build-up. For snowfalls above 8 inches, we dispatch twice.

  • Student Shoveling Staff: Local college students make up 80% of our workforce. The remainder are local adults who help in larger storms. All staff pass background checks.

  • Areas We Shovel: Driveways, sidewalks, front/back/side walkways/stairs/patios.

  • Restricted Areas To Shovel: Any areas that require specific or unlocked access including trash bin areas, backyard walkways and patios for safety reasons.

  • Salt Or Sand Application: Snow Scholars will apply your preferred de-icing materials at a $10 charge per visit. You must leave the materials accessible for us in a bucket with a hand-scoop for us to provide the salting/sanding service.

  • Service Radius: 5–6 miles driving distance from campus for efficient and reliable coverage.

Dispatching Policies

  • Notification System: When snow is expected to accumulate and your selected threshold is met, you will receive an email confirming your home has been placed on a student’s route. If you do not receive a dispatch email, your home is not scheduled for service at that time. Please be aware that sudden changes in weather conditions may lead to last-minute adjustments to our dispatch plans. If you believe your threshold has been met and have not received a notification, please contact us promptly at info@snowscholars.com.

  • Weather Tracking: A combination of NOAA, The Weather Channel, and in person measuring in the center of your college town are used to determine the official snow height.

  • Final Say To Dispatch: Some storms may have wind gusts, rainfall, etcetera that will impact the safety of your home surfaces. With this, Snow Scholars has the final say to dispatch based on the height you selected. We require this for safety, city fines, and doing what is applicable to the majority of our customer base.

  • Cancelling A Dispatch & Snow Shoveled Upon Arrival: Canceling a dispatch after it has been scheduled will result in a $40 fee. The same fee applies if the snow has already been cleared by the time our team arrives. However, if we have not arrived within 12 hours of snowfall ending and you decide to shovel yourself, no fee will be charged. This policy helps ensure fair and efficient scheduling for all customers.

  • Cars In Driveway: We will shovel around your car(s).

Holiday Schedule & Special Policies

  • Thanksgiving, December 20 to January 5, and March 15 to 30: Our student shoveling staff will be limited during these dates for breaks. We have a reserve of local adult shovelers during these times. Please expect a small delay in shoveling during these dates. Please let us know if snow removal is immediate for you during these dates, so we can plan.

  • Melting Snow & Icy Snow Policy: We do not dispatch during warm, non-accumulating snowfall to ensure meaningful service. If snow reaches your dispatch threshold and begins to melt but is followed by freezing temperatures, we will dispatch to prevent ice formation by morning.

  • Potential Service Delays: Severe weather conditions may cause delays. These conditions may include but is not limited to a blizzard, 3+ snow events in a week, temperatures below -5, and unplowed city roads. The timeframe for city fines are commonly elongated during such times.

  • City fines: Snow Scholars does not assume liability for city fines, but we will work very diligently to make sure your services are comped and/or discounted for the next service.

Optional Add-Ons For Service:

  • Priority Snow Removal: For +$19.99 per snow removal, you can be first on a student's route.

  • De-icing purchase: Snow Scholars will apply your preferred de-icing materials at a $10 charge per visit. You must leave the materials accessible for us in a bucket with a hand-scoop for us to provide the salting/sanding service.

  • Snowbank Removal: For $39.99, we will return after the city has plowed to remove your snowbank. If the city plowed before we shovel we, will remove the snowbank at no fee. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Billing Frequency & Procedures:

  • When Billing Occurs: Billing occurs immediately after shoveling. Billing occurs prior to booking for vacation plans.

  • Credit Card On File: Credit or debit cards must be on file to receive any service.

  • Failed Payments: If a card payment fails, we may request updated payment information. You may call (612) 400-8700. A $10/day late fee applies, and service will be canceled immediately if we don’t hear from you.

  • Security & Concerns: We use a third-party app that is secure and trusted among thousands of businesses.

  • Charge Types: Full charge applies if snowfall meets your threshold, even if melting begins. A full charge applies if snowfall is borderline meeting your threshold but freezing overnight temperatures requires a dispatch to prevent ice. If you clear snow without notifying us and a student arrives within the 12-hour window, a $40 charge will apply.

Cancellation Policy:

  • 10-Day Notice Policy: Customers may terminate service with a 10-day written notice if Snow Scholars fails to meet expectations. Charges will apply for any services provided prior to termination. Once payment is received, all billing and card information will be removed from our system.

  • Final Cancellation Deadline: Customers have until January 1st to cancel for the remainder of the season. Cancellations after January 1st will incur a $75 fee per property, billed to the card or invoiced via email.

  • Why This Policy Exists: Each Snow Scholar is assigned a set number of homes for the season. Late cancellations limit our ability to reassign work and sign up new customers that may have had our service.
